Passing the Mantle of Ministry In the secular world we would say “passing the baton,” an allusion to the relay race where the first runner passes the baton to the second runner. In the Christian world, we find the illustration of Elijah, the prophet, passing off his ministry to his successor, Elisha. When Elijah was taken up into glory, he dropped his mantle. Elisha took up the mantle of Elijah, praying that God would give him a double portion of the Spirit that rested on his mentor. In the ministry, when one man turns over a ministry to another, we often refer to it as dropping and picking up the mantle. I have tendered my resignation as the founding pastor of Heritage Baptist Church. We are turning the work completely over to the new pastor by March 1, 2016. My wife and I will then fade away into a new ministry (yet to be determined). That being said, HBC will need faithful workers to replace my wife and I. There is work in regards to finance, children’s ministry, and music. Pastor Hunt could use help with nursery workers, children’s church workers, bus workers, etc. Please pray with us for replacement workers. Pastor Hunt’s contact info is (717) 478-1450. Please pray for Pastor Hunt as he picks up the mantle of ministry. Pray that God would indeed give him a double portion of the blessing that we have seen at Heritage in the past fourteen years. Pray also for wisdom as he makes decisions and leads the church into the new year. LEH
